Some cars can travel high miles. Nobody likes burden with costly repairs, and even if a model covered under warranty, taking it to a dealer’s service center is a pain. To be sure, today’s automobiles, SUVs, and trucks can last a long time provided they well-maintained and repairs are performed promptly. The majority of models, on the other hand, frequently prove to be so difficult and/or expensive to repair that it’s better to send them to a salvage yard than to invest additional money in them. The durability of a vehicle is important whether you plan to drive it for five years or fifteen. To that goal, statisticians at iSeeCars.com, an online automobile search engine, combed through more than 11.8 million used vehicles sold in 2020 to see which had logged at least 200,000 miles (with still more to be racked up by next-generation buyers). Each of the top 16 cars determined to have a greater than two-and-a-half chance of exceeding 200K than the national average.

While trucks and truck-based SUVs dominate the list, two Toyota hybrids, as well as the Avalon sedan and Prius hatchback, appear, providing Toyota a good reputation as a trustworthy car manufacturer, at least by this metric. Granted, only a small percentage of automobiles, trucks, and SUVs reach 200,000 miles in their lifespan. Only one percent of all automobiles, on average, ever reach the 200k milestone.

iSeeCars.com found that six light-duty pickup trucks had 200,000-mile longevity that is above average. The Toyota Tundra and Honda Ridgeline topping the list. The Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Titan, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and the industry’s best-selling Ford F-150 came in second, third, and fourth, respectively. “Pickup trucks are nearly twice as likely to exceed 200,000 miles on average,” adds Brauer. “Pickup trucks frequently utilised as work vehicles, and thus are more likely to accumulate more kilometres than a conventional passenger car. While also benefiting from more constant preventative maintenance and essential repairs.”

Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet, and Cadillac are the automobile brands that generate the most vehicles that expected to exceed 200,000 miles. Two of the cars on the longest-running list are gas/electric hybrids, which goes against the popular belief. This type of vehicle will have a shorter useful life owing to depleting batteries.
